Pros: Quick acceleration, stylish, stable at high speeds, great mileage Cons: no kick start (2003), no helmet lock, accessories spendy.
Since we seem to be running a bit behind on the models and years...
After spending a number of months researching scooters I ended up purchasing the new 2003 DiTech Scarabeo 50. I wanted a "green" machine with low fuel consumption, high...
Pros: Wicked fast, stylish, fun, easy to ride, Italian. Cons: Sucky accessories, pricey, Aprilia USA doesn't stock many parts.
My Scarabeo 50 is currently my *only* vehicle, and is kitted to 70cc with a Ganelli touing pipe, so keep that in mind when you read this. I actually got this as an even trade from my dealer for a damaged Scarabeo 150, so that's why I don't have a price...
Pros: Nice style, speed close to 50mph, good feel, reliable, high quality Cons: storage boxes have to be purchased separately; some accessories currently unavailable
I have been a vintage scooter owner for many years and I NEVER thought that I'd buy one of these new automatic bikes. I love the older styles, and I enjoy using a manual transmission. But after commuting (20 miles each way) to work on a Vespa Primavera...
Pros: nice acceleration, great balance, big wheels, and good performance. Cons: Not many dealers or mechanics licensed by Aprilia.
Aprilia Scarabeo 50 2001...
This is my first bike and I just finished my first week! I finished my motorcycle course last week and got my license the day it finished. First off, I recommend anyone who is going to or has a bike to take an authorized...
Pros: Great speed, comfort, easy safe handling, excellent finish, large gas tank, it looks absolutely fabulous. Cons: Limited storage space, heavy (247 Kg)
I have searched for a while for the best two wheeled mode of transportation that would get me easily around town and safely on the freeway. I have found it! After trying out the the 4 entries in the so-called Maxi scooter category (Yamaha T-max 500, Suzuk ...
Pros: Fun, fast, well-built, great looks Cons: price, spotty service, top box availability
The retro look sucked me in but the ride won me over. I rode several good, well-built 50 cc scooters but this one had the combination of styling, features, speed and handling that I thought was the best combination.
Pros: Big wheels, fast(ish), very cool, cheaper than a vespa Cons: Only storage room for one helmet
Since epinions has been so useful to me, I thought I'd write a review for others.
I bought the 2003 Aprilia Scarabeo 50 DiTech about a week ago. So far, I love it, love it, love it. I spent the whole weekend riding around Seattle clocking up...
im a 22 year old college student who until a year ago had a car but
i wrecked it. my girlfriends mom at the time had a 1987 yamaha riva scooter that she let me get running. i liked the scooter way of life
it seemed like there was less stress...
Pros: Fast, light, easy to ride, stylish. Cons: Riding position tiring for long journeys
My girlfriend bought a Scarabeo 100 soon after I'd bought a Habana (mojito) 125.
Of the two, I'd say hers is definately the nippier bike. It's so good that I regularly borrow it just to speed around on for the joy of it. The secret is in the two stroke engine which is enormously powerful and the fact that the bile is so light and responsive. The large wheels help negotiate the horrible pot holes we have here in the third world (Northern England). The riding position isn't as comfortable over long runs as my Habana but you wouldn't notice that for journeys under 50 miles. She's had it for 3 years and nothing has ever gone wrong with it.
If you want a fun, light-weight, powerful, good-looking, inexpensive, modern commuter vehicle, this is for you.
Pros: Stylish, fast for a scooter, a tank of gas last and lasts... Cons: kick start a little tricky and took some wearing-in to work
People are always stopping me and wanting to look at my bike. There is a big vespa community but people haven't seen much of the Scarabeo. They almost always think it's cool, want to know how much one costs, etc.
The Body design is more modern and stylish as well as more comfortable. I can easily let a 2nd passenger ride on the double seat and both helmets fit snugly in the luggage case. I have had continuous problems shutting and locking the helmet/luggage add on.
